Fernando Lopes, the president of Uniao Tires, the club where Beto first made his breakthrough, has suggested that United should consider a move for the forward, according to the . Beto joined Everton from Udinese for an initial £25.75m (€30m) and really struggled to find his footing, and the back of the net, initially. However, since the appointment of David Moyes, Beto has become a key player and started scoring regularly. Lopes believes Beto would even be a better fit for United than the United-linked Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting CP – despite the Swede scoring 68 goals in the past two seasons to Beto's 11.

As per the , Lopes said: “Everyone thought Amorim would sign Gyokeres as he had him at Sporting but the Premier League is completely different to Portugal.
“Teams are more physical and compact at the back, it is quicker and more competitive. Gyokeres would struggle to play as a lone number nine waiting for service. Beto’s a more physical player, who fights with defenders and doesn’t lose duels. He is a real headache for opponents — if he gets the service.
“In their golden era, United always scored a lot of goals from set-pieces but haven’t had a proper striker for many seasons. Nowadays, teams have small, quick strikers or a false forward because there is an obsession for possession of the ball. Beto represents the typical old style, because of his physique, power and work-rate — plus he is very fast. When Moyes went to Everton he showed what a handful he is for defenders to stop.
“He’d be like Amorim’s ace up his sleeve in a game of poker.”

A move for a player initially considered a flop at Everton is unlikely to materialise. However, United have been linked with a move for another Everton flop. Reports over the weekend suggested that United are weighing up the possibility of triggering Moise Kean's release clause at Fiorentina. The Italian striker has release clause of €52 million (£44.5m/$60m) available from 1 to 15 July and has attracted interest from both United and Saudi Pro League sides.

The hunt for a striker goes on. Amorim is unimpressed with both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee and wants the club to bring in a proven goalscorer up front. The options remain thin and the rumours remain large, but as of yet, United are yet to truly identify the best option up front. When the club kicks off the start of the season against Arsenal at Old Trafford, it is unknown who the starting striker will be.
